8500 feet – my highest altitude star trail to date! The road up to the mountain top was gated off, so I had to hike it to the top. It was only half-a-mile and 600 feet up from where I started walking. Let me tell you, first day at altitude, that was the toughest half mile walk of my life. The temperatures dropped into the low 40s while while I was waiting for the camera to finish snapping away. Good times and all worth it in the end.
I used a lumecube with a green filter to illuminate the grass and bushes in the foreground. The city lights below from Cortez, Co – glitter away beneath the deep black skies of southwest Colorado.
