A Quick Trip To Missouri

I drove out to Missouri for a quick star trail trip. After my initial campsite was washed out due to heavy rains, I ended up in Mark Twain’s hometown shooting from a city park that overlooked the Mississippi.

In the little town of Hannibal, MO the spirit of Mark Twain is very much present. I camped above the very caves that inspired some of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. There’s a museum in town in Mark Twain’s old home and various sites in the town have been named for the author.

I wish that I had known I was going to this town before I showed up. I was prepared for primitive camping outdoors in July. Basically, I had minimal clothing and didn’t feel up to a cave tour at 52 degrees F – no jeans or jacket brought on this trip. Had I known, I probably would have gone spelunking. I also didn’t partake in any of the tourism around Mark Twain as I was focused on trying to find my star trail shots with minimal prep – not how I like to operate. None-the-less, I was happy with most my star trails on this trip. I hope to go back and do the tourism at some point.
